Key Steps to Reduce Colorectal Cancer Risk

A new report from the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund concluded that as many as half of all cases of colorectal can­­cer could be prevented if everyone did these three things:

  • Eat healthfully.
  • Stay physically active.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.

The key dietary steps are:

  • Consume more whole grains and other high-fiber foods.
  • Consume more dairy products (or calcium supplements).
  • Limit or avoid red meat and processed meat.
  • Limit or avoid alcohol.
